Crescent Window Lock: Profile and Keeper Selection Guide

A crescent window lock secures a sliding window by rotating a cam into a keeper at the meeting rail. Correct selection depends on profile offset, mounting centers, keeper position, handing and installed engagement, not appearance alone.

Crescent window lock and keeper for sliding window selection
Approve the lock and keeper as a matched interface.

Step 1: Record the meeting-rail geometry

Close the sash and measure the relative height and lateral offset between the two meeting rails. Include weather seals, pile strips and production tolerances. The lock body must sit flat while the cam reaches the keeper without pulling the panels out of alignment.

Dimension What to record Why it matters
Rail offset Height difference between mounting surfaces Controls lock-to-keeper alignment
Mounting centers Center-to-center screw spacing Determines new or replacement fit
Edge distance Screw center to profile edge Affects support and clearance
Keeper position Height, setback and engagement line Controls cam capture
Profile wall Material thickness at each fixing Guides fastener selection

Step 2: Match lock rotation and handing

State the viewing side, moving sash, lock location and required rotation. Left and right labels can vary between suppliers, so use a drawing or photograph marked with the opening direction. Confirm that the lever or thumb turn remains reachable after installation.

Define handing from a marked viewing side and sash direction.

Step 3: Set the keeper position

Position the keeper so the cam enters without impact and reaches full engagement. Too little engagement can allow release under movement; excessive preload can increase operating force, distort the sash or accelerate wear. Compared with generic replacement listings, an OEM approval must control both lock and keeper geometry.

Step 4: Validate mounting and fasteners

Check screw length, head clearance, pilot holes and internal profile support. Replacement holes may be enlarged or off-center. Matching mounting centers will not solve a damaged fixing surface or a keeper positioned for a different cam path.

Inspect fixing support and cam engagement on the production profile.

Step 5: Approve finish and sample fit

The source library identifies crescent locks for sliding windows within HIPAD’s Window Locks with Key family. It does not publish a universal dimensional range, certificate number, price or MOQ for every crescent-lock model. Request model drawings, material and finish details, then test a representative sample.

  1. Install the lock and keeper on production-intent profiles.
  2. Cycle the sash and confirm the lock does not strike the frame.
  3. Check cam entry, full engagement and release force.
  4. Inspect screw retention and profile deformation.
  5. Approve the drawing, finish sample, packaging and inspection criteria.

Preguntas frecuentes

Are all crescent window locks interchangeable?

No. Rail offset, screw centers, cam path, keeper geometry and handing must match the window system.

Can mounting centers prove replacement fit?

No. Also check profile support, faceplate coverage, cam engagement, keeper position and operating clearance.

How much keeper engagement is required?

Use the model drawing and installed sample. The supplied family reference does not state one universal engagement dimension for every lock.

Can HIPAD customize a window lock?

HIPAD describes OEM/ODM support for dimensions, structures, finishes, logos, molds and packaging. Feasibility, price, MOQ and lead time require a project quotation.
